Look out and ring the bell!

Amusement Park opening times: 10:00 to 12:30 and 14:00 to 18:00

The Peter Pan Railway at the front of the camp was within the amusement park and commanded a view of the street beyond. There were perhaps, seven or eight cars (trains) in a stack and one of the attendants would give the car a push and it would separate from the others and head off along the twisting track, in a stop/start manner, until it picked up power and speeded up. Throughout the ride, the cars were prone to slowing and speeding up. It was fun to ring the bell loudly as you went along, but not particularly exciting, as you could see the majority of the whole layout, so there was little surprise as to what was coming next.

It was fun to see other cars on the track ahead and wonder if you were going to catch them up, and also see another car pass close by in the opposite direction as the layout twisted back on itself.

There was another railway of this type in the Children's Amusement Park adjacent to the Gaiety Building.

I think this was an early morning visit to Peter Pan's, as no other cars are visible. Note the concrete street lamps.

Of course, the infrequent slowing and speeding up of the cars would have been the ride operator reducing the traction current to slow the cars at the beginning/end of the ride, to allow passengers to get on/off.

The track was raised on concrete blocks, which I suppose was enough ballast to hold it steady while seemingly being a temporary layout.
